2017 F-250 Super Duty Packs the Power to Get the Job Done

The 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty is what Car and Driver calls "a trucker's truck." It packs a huge amount of power for when you have a big job to get done, and while it does have modern upgrades to make the cabin livable, it is relatively Spartan, making it more of a work truck than a personal vehicle.

The Super Duty is available in several trim levels and two engine options, including a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel that packs a sky-high 925 pound-feet of torque.

Car and Driver went with the less-potent gasoline engine, a 385-horsepower, 430-pound-feet-torque 6.2-liter V8 for their test. Even so, they recorded 0-to-60 acceleration of 6.7 seconds, which is flying for a truck as massive as a Super Duty. They were satisfied with its braking as well, stopping from 70 mph in under 200 feet.

Those looking for more amenities may prefer to wait for the arrival of the 2018 Ford F-150. The light-duty pickup offers more comforts and technology compared to the old-school Super Duty, and its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 actually outclasses the Super Duty's gas engine, pulling 470 pound-feet torque, though at a loss of 10 horsepower compared to the 6.2-liter V8.
