It wasn’t too long ago when you’d see a brand-new pickup truck on the road in Martinsville, Danville, Rocky Mount, or Greensboro, and there was a good chance it would be almost the same as the equivalent model from a decade ago. That’s not going to cut it anymore, which is why the Blue Oval unveiled a new Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickup trucks just last year with a new look inside and outside, with lots of new technology, and an enhanced diesel powertrain. If a half-ton truck isn’t up to what you have in mind for a new truck, the 2024 Ford Super Duty is sure to have whatever you need.
Different grille designs to differentiate between trim levels may not be a completely original idea, but that doesn’t stop it from being a good idea. There are seven different grilles in the 2024 Ford Super Duty lineup, which vary between trim levels and appearance packages. Other recently introduced exterior styling elements include LED C-shaped lighting available for every model, long side vents for improved aerodynamics, and several tempting design packages.
The 2024 Ford Super Duty lineup includes F-250, F-350, and F-450 models. Trim levels start with the entry-level XL models and then go to the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and top-of-the-line Limited. The F-250, F-350, and F-450 versions of the 2024 Super Duty are all available in each of the six trim levels.
The standard engine for the 2024 Ford Super Duty is a 6.8-liter gas V-8 that comes mated to Ford’s excellent 10-speed automatic transmission. A 7.3-liter gas V-8 is also available with revised tuning and benefits from an improved air intake. Of course, if you’re serious about towing, which you almost certainly are if you’re considering a Super Duty, you’ll be pleased to learn that the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel is available in an extremely capable high-output version.
The oil burner benefits from revised tuning introduced last year, along with its enhanced turbocharger and revised exhaust manifold. Every model from the XLT upwards gets standard four-wheel-drive, and Ford is pleased to be able to boast that Super Duty models equipped with the high output Power Stroke are most powerful diesel pickups in their class.
With fewer trim levels and engine options, heavy-duty trucks used to be somewhat blunt instruments compared to their light-duty siblings. However, Ford has moved away from that convention to some extent that with the current Super Duty lineup, as many tech-focused features are now standard or available for these super-capable pickup trucks.
For a start, a 5G wireless connection can transform the speed of the infotainment system, especially when it comes to those increasingly important over-the-air updates. Also available are a 2.0-kW outboard generator, a head-up display, and plenty of new driver-assist features. Those features include adaptive cruise control, land-centering assist, and front and rear emergency braking.
The 2024 Ford Super Duty is a lineup of full-size, heavy-duty pickup trucks that continue to push the boundary of expectation and capability.
